Reflexology: Just Another Parlor Trick.

Sometimes I feel like all I do all day is parlor tricks.  Trust me, I am no magician. I'm no fortune teller.  But sometimes it feels like it.  I have been practicing Reflexology for a year now and each day I am more and more convinced of its validity.  Here are a few personal experiences:

*A woman came in seeking relief from menstrual cramps.  She gave me no healthy history.  I palpated a few sensitive reflexes and asked, "Have you been experiencing any tightness or fluttering in your chest?" Shocked, she reported that about twice a month she feels a tightness and fluttering in her chest and had planed to visit her doctor.  After locating another tender reflex I asked, "Do you have a hard time breathing deeply?  Or experience shortness of breathe?"  Again, the answer was yes.  Keep in mind, all she told me before our session was that she wanted relief from menstrual cramps.

*During a session with a male client I asked if he was experiencing any jaw or tooth pain. Rather surprised, he said yes.  His jaw had been bothering him for the last week or so.  After checking the same reflex on the opposite foot I asked "Is that side of your jaw more sensitive than the other?"  Again, his answer was yes. He had not mentioned his jaw pain as the purpose of his visit was to find relief from painful hammer toe.

*A female client had an ovarian reflex that was continuously sensitive.  Many women are sensitive on their reproductive reflexes due to their monthly cycle, so I didn't think much of it.  After 5 sessions and no significant change in sensitivity she felt something was off and went in to see her general practitioner. I got chills when she told me they found a cyst on her ovary. This client had been coming in for neck pain.

*I was working on a man seeking relief from back pain.  He was particularly sensitive on the reflex representing the lymph nodes in the groin area. When I told him what that reflex represented, he reported he was currently suffering from shingles on his groin. He had been too embarrassed to tell me about his shingles, due to their location, before our session.

*A male client came in for some basic stress relief.  Due to crystal build up on his eye/ear reflex I asked if he had any issues with his eyes or ears. He reported he was currently on antibiotics for an ear infection.

I should note that all of the above clients did find relief for the ailments they hoped to find relief from.  All (including myself) were surprised at what else was discovered over the course of their session.

I admit it.  I started out a skeptic.  I have decided to take a scientific approach to what I do, and  I am truly fascinated by every session.  I am amazed at all your feet can tell me!  Your feet can tell me your health history, your current struggles, and also provide a warning for potential complications in the future.

Sure, sometimes I want to say "Ta da!" after a session, but I can assure you, Reflexology is no parlor trick!
